Pop Offs

What are Delamination/Pop Offs?
Delamination is the separation of layers that are supposed to be bound together in the swimming pool. Most common appear in plaster/Marcite Pools. Some of the visible signs are plaster pops, and fragmentation on the edges.

What happen if you leave the pool's delamination unrepaired?

  • Swimmers might get injured from unrepaired pop offs.

  • Unrepaired pop offs makes your pool look bad.

  • Severe pop offs might spread damage to other areas of the pool surface if left untreated.

What to do while you have delamination:

  • Keep your water chemistry maintained. If you allow your water chemistry to get out of balance, even once, you will probably end up with black algae in the places where the plaster is coming lose.

  • Use wet dry sandpaper on rough edges while the pool is filled with water. This will prevent people from cutting themselves on the rough edges. On plaster pops with raised edges, you may need to knock all of the raised portions off first, and then sand them.

  • Try not to drain your pool until you are ready to resurface, or drain and immediately refill if you must drain it.
