Crack Treatment

Why does your pool crack?

Swimming pools can develop cracks in the concrete that lies beneath the plaster finish, due to settling, ground shifting or erosion. Simple hairline cracks in the finish may not involve a leak and can, usually, be easily repaired. However, a crack that is structural in nature and is under stress cannot be simply glued in place or plastered over, as the forces involved will continue to pull the crack apart. Such cracks must be stabilized in order to prevent the crack from widening and causing on-going leak problems.

What happens if you do not repair the cracks?

  • Swimmers may have contact with the cracks, increasing chance of injury.

  • Some cracks might leak resulting in water loss.

  • Severe cracks might damage the pool structure if left untreated. Water might leak underneath the pool surface causing the steel structure to corrode and weaken the pool shell.

How do you prevent your pool from cracking?

  • By completely separating the concrete deck from the pool's bond beam. The expansion joint must extend the full depth of the deck.

  • Use of proper gunite or shotcrete mixture.

  • Hire both soil and structural engineers to do a thorough examination of the pool.

  • Hire a Pool Contractor.
